Courses:Selkirk offers Explorations Art 8, Explorations Art 9, Art Studio 10, Art Studio 11, Art Studio 12 and an advanced Studio course(see McCuaig if interested) . These courses offer opportunities for students to create using many different media. The Visual Arts curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in both three-dimensional and two-dimensional art production. Their course of study will prepare them to enter institutions of higher education as well as the commercial field in visual arts. Students will also attain the skills, knowledge and appreciation of art to continue to use it throughout their lives as a creative outlet.
Instruction includes studies in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, composition, aesthetics, and criticism. Students will deepen their knowledge and skills through in depth studio experiences in the Art Studio 12. Beyond that, during an independent study in Fine Arts, there can be a completion of a portfolio and visual journal representing the skills and creativity developed in the Visual Arts program. Students will then have the foundations to continue on with post secondary study if they choose. Selkirk also offer Media Arts 10-12, which is a computer based art course.
